CRM 365 - Sociology of Violence

Physical violence as interpersonal, cultural, societal, political phenomenon. Topics include the learning of aggression, the social organization and rationalization of various forms of violence, the experiences of victims, and the prospects for reducing current levels of violent conflict. Prerequisite: ANT 102 or SOC 100 or 150. Also listed as SOC 365. Fulfills: LASR. (3 cr. hr.)

Student Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  1. Describe multiple ways in which violence is defined, theorized, portrayed and addressed through sociological and criminological sources.
  2. Analyze assumptions, values and beliefs that inform policies and practices related to violence.
  3. Synthesize criminological and sociological sources to draw evidence-based inferences.
