CHE 340 - Inorganic Chemistry

Structures and reactivities of elements and compounds emphasizing modern theories of bonding and periodicity. Prerequisites: CHE 227, 277 and CHE 228, 278. Fulfills: LASR. (3 cr. hr.)
Frequency code F = offered in fall

Student Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  1. Utilize theories of bonding to describe bonding fundamentals of ionic, covalent, and metallic bonds.
  2. Predict the electronic structure of metal complexes using crystal field theory and ligand field theory.
  3. Use symmetry operations and group theory to assign symmetry to molecules and to predict spectroscopic properties.
