AFS 141 - Initial Military Experience I

Introduction to the responsibilities, life and work of an Air Force officer. Basic knowledge of drill and ceremonies, military courtesies and the wearing of the uniform. Notes: All Air Force cadets spend two hours a week throughout the academic year in a leadership laboratory, for which no academic credit is given. Occasionally laboratories are held at times other than the normally scheduled period. All cadets are expected to participate in an evening formal dinner and to meet minimum physical fitness and weight standards each semester. Leadership lab is open to students qualified to compete for an Air Force commission.(1 cr. hr.)

Student Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  1. Identify Air Force enlisted and officer grade structure by insignia and name.
  2. Identify Air Force ROTC grade structure and organization.
  3. List the current Air Force chain of command.
  4. Define each element of the Cadet Honor Code.
  5. Recall procedures for reporting a suspected Cadet Honor Code violation.
  6. Describe common misconceptions and improper applications of the Cadet Honor Code.
  7. Demonstrate proper grooming standards.
  8. Execute individual drill fundamentals.
  9. Recall proper Air Force customs and courtesies expected of cadets to peers, superiors, and subordinates.
  10. Perform proper forms of saluting and recognize who and when to salute.
