AAS 241 - African American Chorale

College-community mixed choral group which performs a wide range of African American music such as folk, Negro spirituals and traditional and contemporary gospel. Concert tours. Consent of department required. Grading: S, U grades are assigned. (1 cr. hr.)

Student Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  1. Identify vocal melody and harmony in African American traditional and contemporary gospel songs.
  2. Identify and foster creative potential through live performance.
  3. Explain the importance of gospel music in African American culture.
  4. Apply fundamental skills to perform gospel music with authenticity and confidence.
