SHH 382 - Speech and Hearing Science

A study of the acoustic principles related to speech and hearing including acoustics of sound, acoustics of voice and speech production, auditory transduction, and psychoacoustics. Prerequisite: SHH 350. Can be taken concurrently. Fulfills: LASR. (3 cr. hr.)

Student Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  1. Describe and analyze the basic characteristics of sound and distinguish between physical and psychoacoustic properties.
  2. Describe and apply the principles of acoustics to the production of voice and speech.
  3. Describe the scientific principles and physiological processes involved in the reception and perception of sound.
