SOC 492 - Sociological Theory(A) Sociological theory as an appreciation and a critique of modernity; the classical tradition as formulated by Marx, Durkheim, Weber and others, such as Simmel and Mead; the relevance of this tradition to the understanding of both contemporary sociological theory and the promises and discontents of contemporary modern societies.
