The Master of Science in Sport Management is a comprehensive business and management program that is designed as a full-time, 30 credit-hour program. This program is designed to directly meet the growing needs and demands of national sport organizations, multi-national corporations, and businesses seeking to hire an educated and culturally aware work force prepared to work in a diverse and rapidly changing sport economy. The M.S. in Sport Management is designed to allow for validation with the appropriate academic accrediting body in North America, the Commission on Sport Management Accreditation (COSMA), a joint commission created by the North American Society for Sport Management, and the National Association for Sport and Physical Education.
Admission Requirements
- A minimum overall undergraduate grade point average of 2.8 is preferred. Students with an undergraduate grade point average below 2.8 will be reviewed for admission on a case-by-case basis, taking into consideration standardized test scores, the personal statement, and letters of recommendation.
- Completion and submission of Cortland’s Graduate Studies Application with the appropriate application fee.
- Official transcripts from all institutions of higher learning attended to be forwarded directly to SUNY Cortland.
- Either the Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) or Graduate Record Exam scores to be sent to SUNY Cortland by Educational Testing Service (ETS).
- A personal statement containing the applicants’ professional and educational goals in 250 words or less.
- A minimum of two letters of recommendation to be sent directly to the SUNY Cortland Graduate Studies Office.

Program Requirements
The Master of Science in Sport Management is delivered in two distinctive tracks. The full-time residential program is a 30 credit-hour program, requiring a core of six specific courses, two elective courses and a six-credit-hour culminating experience offered on campus in the Sport Management Department. The part-time on-line program with residency is delivered with a combination of blended and on-line courses to be completed in approximately two calendar years. Two weekend residencies are required to complete the program. A. Required Core Courses: 18 credit hours
B. Elective Courses: Six credit hours
C. Required Culminating Experience: Six credit hours
