The childhood education major prepares students to become lelmentary school teachers in grades 1-6. Students learn to develop curriculum in all areas of the New York State Learning Standards.

GE 1: Quantitative Skills
GE 4: United States History and Society
GE 5: Western Civilization
Any GE 5 course GE 6: Contrasting Cultures
GE 7: The Humanities
Any GE 7 course GE 8: The Arts
Any GE 8 course GE 9: Foreign Language
Program Requirement: foreign language through the 102 level (six credit hours) GE 10: Basic Communication
- Select either CPN 100 or 102 and CPN 101 or 103.
- Additionally select one course fulfilling the Presentation Skills Requirement.
GE 11: Prejudice and Discrimination
- Any GE 11 course
(Recommended: FSA 103: Race, Class and Gender Issues in Education)
GE 12: Science, Technology, Values and Society
GE 13: Natural Science - Second Science Requirement
B. Content Core: 31 credit hours
C. Pedagogy Courses: 40 credit hours
Methodology Block I: 14 credit hours
Methodology Block II: 10 credit hours
Application and Reflection on Teaching: 13 credit hours
D. Concentration in an Approved Liberal Arts Area: 30-33 credit hours
30-33 credit hours with a minimum of 18 hours at the 300 and 400 level.
Credit hours vary depending on area chosen. Requirements in General Education and content core may reduce the number of credit hours in a concentration. Approved concentrations include: biology, earth science, English language arts, environmental studies, French, humanities, mathematics, social sciences and Spanish. Total Credit Hours Required for Graduation from the College: 128
Total Credit Hours Required for Childhood Education with Concentrations: 130-141
