This major prepares students to have dual certification in early childhood and childhood education for teaching from birth through grade 6.

A. College-wide and General Education Courses: 50 credit hours
General Education Program
GE 1: Quantitative Skills
GE 4: United States History and Society
GE 5: Western Civilization
Any GE 5 course GE 6: Contrasting Cultures
GE 7: The Humanities
Any GE 7 course GE 8: The Arts
Any GE 8 course GE 9: Foreign Language
Program Requirement: foreign language through the 102 level (six credit hours) GE 10: Basic Communication
- Select either CPN 100 or 102 and CPN 101 or 103.
- Additionally select one course fulfilling the Presentation Skills Requirement.
GE 11: Prejudice and Discrimination
- Any GE 11 course
(Recommended: FSA 103: Race, Class and Gender Issues in Education)
GE 12: Science, Technology, Values and Society
GE 13: Natural Science - Second Science Requirement
B. Professional Preparation and Pedagogy Courses: 71 credit hours
Pre-Professional Block: eight credit hours
Early Childhood Methodology Block I: 16 credit hours
Childhood Methodology Block I: 16 credit hours
Early Childhood Methodology Block II: 18 credit hours
Early Childhood Methodology Block III: 13 credit hours
C. Approved Childhood and Early Childhood Concentrations
30-31 credit hours with a minimum of 18 credit hours at the 300 and 400 level.
Requirements in General Education and content core may reduce the number of credit hours in a concentration to 24. Approved concentration requirements are listed in the Childhood and Early Childhood program requirements. If a second major is selected as an alternative to the 30-credit hour concentration, the requirements will be listed in the academic department of the second major. I. Environmental Studies Concentration [EST]
31 credit hours, with a minimum of 18 credit hours at the 300 level or above A. Required Environmental Studies Core: 13 credit hours
B. Natural Science Courses: minimum nine credit hours
Please note: some courses listed below may require additional prerequisites. C. Social Science Courses: minimum nine credit hours

Seven credit hours taken in General Education II. Humanities Concentration [HUM]
30 credit hours, with a minimum of 18 credit hours at the 300 level or above. A. Required Humanities Core: 12 credit hours
Select one course from each of the groups below: B. Humanities Electives: 18 credit hours
Select from any of the following: Total credit hours: 30
Six credit hours taken in General Education III. Social Sciences Concentration [SOS]
30 credit hours, with a minimum of 18 credit hours at the 300 level or above. A. Required Social Sciences Core: 12 credit hours
B. Social Sciences Electives: 18 credit hours
Select nine credit hours in U.S. studies and nine credit hours in global studies from the list below. Some courses may require additional prerequisites. United States Studies: nine credit hours

All but two course requirements can be taken in the four year example as displayed. If a student goes not have course equivalencies (waived or completed) prior to matriculation; the last few requirements will need to be taken during the summer, or another semester will be required.
