Applied Kinesiology B.S. / Athletic Training M.S. 3+2

Students in the combined Applied Kinesiology B.S./Athletic Training M.S. program will develop a strong foundation in anatomy and physiology, exercise physiology, biomechanics, psychology, patient assessment, medical terminology, and injury management through rigorous coursework. The focused science-based curriculum prepares students for the Athletic Training M.S. (accelerated 3+2) which provides the opportunity to earn both a bachelor's and master's degree in five years. Students are well prepared to work as an athletic trainer in a variety of settings, such as high schools, colleges, clinics, industry, and professional sports. 

Criteria for progression into the M.S. in Athletic Training

  1. Candidates must maintain a GPA of 3.0 and higher on a 4.0 scale to progress in the program.
     
  2. Evidence of a minimum grade of C in the following college courses or course equivalent:
  • BIO 301 Human Anatomy and Physiology I (with lab) – 4 credits
  • BIO 302 Human Anatomy and Physiology II (with lab) – 4 credits
     
  • BIO 111 and 113 Principles of Biology II and lab – 4 credits or
  • BIO 110 Principles of Biology I - 4 credits or
  • BIO 201 Biological Sciences I - 4 credits or
  • BIO 202 Biological Sciences II - 4 credits
     
  • EXS 387 Biomechanics – 3 credits
  • CHE 227 and 277 General Chemistry I and lab – 4 credits
  • EXS 397 Exercise Physiology – 3 credits
  • PSY 101 Introductory Psychology – 3 credits
  • PHY 105 Elementary Mechanics and Heat – 4 credits
  • EXS 346 Sports Psychology – 3 credits
  • EXS 201 Statistics in Exercise Science – 3 credits

A. General Education and Liberal Arts Requirements: 33 credit hours


Students must complete the General Education (GEXX) requirements, including the following courses:

C. Pre-Athletic Training Theory Requirements: 36 credit hours


The pre-athletic araining theory core provides students a more specific educational background in order to prepare them for the coursework within the Master of Science in Athletic Training degree program.

3 credits of Writing Intensive included

D. Pre-Athletic Training Electives: 18 credit hours


This section will serve as electives for the students' undergraduate degree but will also provide the accelerated opportunity to double as some of the required Master of Science in Athletic Training coursework.

E. Free Electives: 3-7 credit hours
