Communication Studies: Concentration in Popular Culture [POP]

The communication studies concentration in popular culture prepares students for careers applying critical analysis to both traditional communication venues such as, radio, television, film and journalism as well as for new media platforms found in social media, digital publishing and other digital innovations.

Student Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this program, students will be able to:

  1. Demonstrate an understanding of classical and contemporary human communication theories.
  2. Demonstrate an understanding of communication from a variety of historical, theoretical, legal, ethical and practical perspectives. 
  3. Demonstrate an increased sensitivity to multicultural dimensions of communication.
  4. Demonstrate an understanding of communication in a variety of contexts — interpersonal, organizational, small group, public and mass media. 
  5. Demonstrate enhanced analytical, critical and performance competencies that will assist students in participating effectively in a society.
