Teaching English as a Second Language – Non-Certification [ESL_NCRT]

Students develop the content area knowledge and the pedagogical background necessary to teach English as a Second Language in the private sector. For additional information, visit the Modern Languages Department .

Student Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this program, students will be able to:

  1. Use knowledge of language as a system to analyze samples of learner language.
  2. Apply theories and research on second language acquisition and on the nature and role of culture to plan and deliver ENL instruction.
  3. Use research-based practices, strategies, and techniques to plan effective standards-based ENL and content instruction.
  4. Select, adapt, and use a wide range of developmentally appropriate, culturally sensitive materials to plan and deliver differentiated ENL and content instruction, as well as design and use a variety of performance-based classroom assessment tools and techniques to measure student learning and to inform instruction.
