Sport Management [SPMG]

Student Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this program, students will be able to: 

  1. Apply business principles to sport-specific experiences.
  2. Identify ethical, equitable, and effective business behaviors in the sport industry.
  3. Clearly and effectively exchange accurate information, ideas, facts, and perspectives with persons inside and outside of sport organizations.
  4. Demonstrate practical implications of individual differences and global cultures and engage effectively with diverse stakeholders in the sport industry.
  5. Illustrate their competence to utilize current technology to enhance efficiency, complete tasks, and accomplish goals within the sports business industry.
  6. Identify and respond to organizational needs based upon an understanding of situational context and logical analysis of relevant information.
  7. Perform practical experience within the sport industry.

Program Standard Grade Point Average 

The major GPA is calculated by all courses identified in the college catalog as required for the major. In addition, this program has an established program standard GPA which may be used to determine progress in the program.

Admission Requirements for Internal Transfers

  1. Admission to the major is limited and application does not guarantee admission.
  2. Students wishing to major in sport management must have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.25 to be considered. 
  3. Students wishing to become majors by internally transferring from another major must submit an application that includes:
    a) change of major form
    b) personal statement explaining their interest in the major relative to their future academic and professional career interests.
  4. Students may be required to complete an interview with department faculty.

A. General Education and Liberal Arts: 33 credit hours


General Education Courses: 24 credit hours


C. SPMG Professional Electives: 6 credit hours minimum or select a concentration


At least three credit hours must be at the 300 level or above. Select a concentration for 12 credit hours or 6 credit hours for professional electives.

E. Required LASR Courses: 9 credit hours


F. Required Management and Economics Foundation: 15 credit hours


G. Free Electives: 3-15 credit hours


3 credit hours if students choose a concentration (see Section H); 15 credit hours if no concentration is chosen. At least 3 credit hours must be 300 level or above.
