This major in the Physical Education Department prepares students to become physical education teachers in grades K-12. Concentrations in adapted physical education and outdoor adventure education are available to interested students.
Upon successful completion of the Bachelor of Science in Education in Physical Education and satisfactory performance on the New York State Teacher Certification Examinations, students may apply for initial New York state teaching certification in the field of physical education.
Students must maintain a minimum GPA of a 2.8 and complete teaching block coursework with a C or above to remain in the program.

- Demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to demonstrate competent movement performance and health enhancing levels of fitness as delineated in the NASPE K-12 Standards.
- Plan and implement developmentally appropriate learning experiences aligned with local, state and national standards to address the diverse needs of all students.
- Demonstrate effective communication and pedagogical skills and strategies to enhance student engagement and learning.
- Apply assessments and reflection to foster student learning and inform instructional decisions.
- Demonstrate dispositions essential to becoming effective professionals.
