Geology [GLY]

This liberal arts major in the Geology Department  provides a solid foundation in the geological sciences. The program is designed to prepare students for licensure as professional geologists as well as meet entrance requirements of graduate programs in geology. The program is registered with the New York State Education Department as a licensure qualifying program for the profession of Geologist.

Student Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this program, students will be able to:

  1. Recall and explain the terminology, concepts and principles of science, geology and its sub-disciplines such as: mineralogy, petrology, sedimentary geology, paleontology, geomorphology, hydrogeology and structural geology.
  2. Collect and analyze data using the methods and tools of geology in field and laboratory settings.
  3. Communicate results and interpretations of geology in written reports and papers.
  4. Communicate results and interpretations of geology in spoken presentations.
  5. Apply the knowledge and skills of geology to real world problems and settings.
