Public Administration and Public Policy (B.S.) [PADP]

Students majoring in public administration and public policy are expected to complete a core curriculum covering the basics of U.S. and world politics, research techniques and political theory. In addition, students explore the relationship between politics and public administration through upper division coursework. Finally, all students must complete a capstone course either through a seminar or internship experience, plus cognate coursework in another department.

Student Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this program, students will be able to:

  1. Acquire substantive knowledge in the field of public administration and public policy
  2. Prepare students for subsequent education, in particular a Master's in Public Administration, professional careers including government service, and citizenship
  3. Acquire the analytical, research, writing, and presentation skills of public administration and policy majors
  4. Engage in service, leadership and experiential learning activities                

 

B. Capstone Internship: Minimum 3 credit hours


Note: The internship meets the department capstone course requirement 

C. Public Administration and Policy Electives: 9 credit hours


Select 9 credit hours from the courses listed below

D. Political Science Electives


Select six credits of Political Science courses numbered at the 300 or 400 level.

E. Cognate Requirements: Minimum of 9 credit hours


Students may choose any cognate group, 1-7, A minimum of nine credit hours must be taken in one group. Cognate courses may not overlap with courses taken to complete General Education (GE) requirements.
