This interdisciplinary minor is open to students in all majors. It is valuable to students preparing for careers in elementary and secondary education, scouting, adventure programming, youth and community groups, nature centers, state and national parks, conservation biology and organized outdoor camping programs.
The minor is organized around a core group of courses and allows students to select one of the following specialized "tracks": environmental education and interpretation, outdoor pursuits or organized camping.

Requirements for the Minor
A. Core: 12-13 credit hours from the following
A practicum experience is required of all students. Students may meet this requirement by completing REC 370 Outdoor Education Practicum (3 cr. hr.) or by completing another practicum approved by the outdoor education minor advisor.
B. Electives: Specialization in one of the following tracks
Environmental Education and Interpretation Track [EOEE]
To be taken in addition to core group (9-11 credit hours by advisement). Outdoor Pursuits Track [EOEO]
Notes: A National Standards Course from the Wilderness Education Association or the National Outdoor Leadership School or REC/SAB 476 may be substituted for REC 379.
A SOLO or WMA course, REC 375 or another approved wilderness first responder course may be substituted for HLH 120.
To be taken in addition to core group (9 credit hours):
Organized Camping Track [EOEC]
Notes: A SOLO or WMA course, REC 375 or another approved wilderness first responder course may be substituted for HLH 120.
To be taken in addition to core group (9 credit hours): Total Credit Hours Required for the Minor: 21-24
