This major in the Communication Disorders and Sciences Department  prepares students for graduate study in speech-language pathology, audiology, education, teacher of the deaf, or special education.

Student Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this program, students will be able to:

1. Retain theoretical knowledge of normal processes related to the development of speech, language, hearing and communication as demonstrated by key assessments defined in specific course syllabi in the Speech and Hearing Science curriculum.
2. Retain theoretical knowledge of disorders of speech, language, hearing and communication as demonstrated by key assessments defined in specific course syllabi in the Speech and Hearing Science curriculum.
3. Learn, describe and demonstrate clinical assessment and intervention techniques and strategies utilizing evidence-based practice as demonstrated by key assessments defined in specific course syllabi in the Speech and Hearing Science curriculum.
4. Develop and refine oral, written and professional communication skills as demonstrated by key assessments defined in specific course syllabi in the Speech and Hearing Science curriculum.
5. Identify diversity in the global society and use this knowledge to guide their interactions with clients and their families as demonstrated by key assessments defined in specific course syllabi in the Speech and Hearing Science curriculum.

Program Standard Grade Point Average Requirement

The major GPA is calculated by all courses identified in the college catalog as required for the major. In addition, this program has an established program standard GPA which may be used to determine progress in the program.

Career Potential

• Graduate school
• With a Master's degree in speech-language pathology or an Au.D. in audiology, graduates can work in hospitals, clinics, rehabilitation centers, universities, private practice, and industry. Most states also require a license and national certification.
