Recreation Management combines advanced-level study in recreation management and administration with supporting management science courses in the Economics Department. The major prepares students to work at management-level positions in the diverse field of parks and recreation. This major is accredited by the Council on Accreditation of Parks, Recreation, Tourism and Related Professions (COAPRT). Student Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this program, students will be able to:
- Demonstrate knowledge of the nature, scope, and foundations of the recreation profession as well as the techniques and processes used by professionals.
- Demonstrate knowledge of strategic management in recreation, including the formulation and implementation of major organizational goals and objectives.
- Demonstrate knowledge of operations and supervision as they contribute to the implementation of major organizational goals and objectives.
- Demonstrate knowledge of financial management in recreation, including budgeting, accounting, and finance.
- Demonstrate through a comprehensive internship the ability to apply recreation management concepts and techniques, use diverse and structured ways of thinking to solve problems related to different facets of professional practice, engage in advocacy, and stimulate innovation.

Recreation Planning Elective:
Six credit hours from the following list: Management/Administration Elective
One course from the following list: C. Internship: 12 credit hours
Students may not enroll in additional course work while enrolled in internship. D. Other: 11 credit hours
- Activity Requirement: at least two different recreation activities (2-6 cr. hr.)
- Liberal Arts and Free Electives (0-3 cr. hr.)
- First Aid Requirement: certification in First Aid/CPR/AED or higher
This certification is a prerequisite for REC 475: Internship in Recreation and Leisure Services and must be current for the duration of the REC 475 internship. Acceptable certifications can be found in the advisement manual.
