The extension in bilingual education is an addition to professional certification in New York State and to a master's degree.
Graduate Admissions
Evaluation Policy

Required Materials
- Completed online Graduate School Application – Apply Now
- Official transcripts from all institutions of higher learning attended to be forwarded directly to SUNY Cortland Graduate Admission Office
Note: Candidates for admission must present evidence of bachelor's degree conferral prior to the start of their academic program.
- Documentation of teaching certification in New York state.

Program Requirements
Fifteen credit hours of approved course work at the graduate level is required. In addition, candidates must complete College-supervised field experiences of at least 50 clock hours in providing bilingual education, as appropriate to the teaching certificate. Core Courses: 15 credit hours
Additional Program Requirements
Students in the Bilingual Extension program must pass the New York required examination: Bilingual Education Assessment (BEA) in the target language of bilingualism. If the candidates have already passed the CST in the target language, the BEA in this language is not required. Students with Disabilities Requirement
All students admitted into the M.S.Ed. program must take a three-credit-hour course on the subject of teaching students with disabilities. If not satisfied at the undergraduate level, this requirement can be satisfied by taking SPE 520 or FSA 510.
