Inclusive Early Childhood Education (Birth-2) [BS_ECS]


This major will be available beginning Fall 2018.

The inclusive early childhood education program for ages birth-grade 2 in the Childhood/Early Childhood Education Department  prepares students to obtain dual certification in early childhood education and early childhood special education to be able to teach students with and without disabilities in preschool settings through grade 2. Students learn to create high-quality inclusive environments that respect all children and their families, are developmentally appropriate and are child centered.

  • successfully complete the second semester (102) of a college-level foreign language sequence 
    or
  • confirm proficiency equivalent to successful completion of the second semester (102) of a college-level foreign language sequence through a testing program approved by the Modern Languages Department, such as the CLEP or OPI.

Approved concentration requirements are listed in the Childhood and Early Childhood program requirements. If a second major is selected as an alternative to the 30-credit hour concentration, the requirements will be listed in the academic department of the second major.

I. Environmental Studies Concentration [EST]


31 credit hours, with a minimum of 18 credit hours at the 300 level or above

Select six additional credit hours at the 300 level and above from those courses not taken to fulfill the Natural Sciences (B) or the Social Sciences (C) as listed above.

II. Humanities Concentration [HUM]


30 credit hours, with a minimum of 18 credit hours at the 300 level or above.

  • Additionally, EDU 303 and COM 436 may be used to fulfill this requirement.

III. Social Sciences Concentration [SOS]


30 credit hours, with a minimum of 18 credit hours at the 300 level or above.
