Recreation: Concentration in Camp Management [REC_CAMP]

The camp management concentration in the Recreation, Parks and Leisure Studies Department prepares students for programmatic and administrative responsibilities in seasonal or year-round camps and conference centers. The curriculum in this concentration balances management-oriented skills with outdoor recreation/environmental education knowledge. Its emphasis is on commercial and entrepreneurial recreation, marketing, accounting, camp counseling, camp and outdoor program administration, environmental and outdoor education, and youth development.

A. Professional Core Courses: 30 credit hours
B. Internship: 12 credit hours
Students may not enroll in additional course work while enrolled in the internship. C. Concentration in Camp Management: 21 credit hours
D. Other: 17 credit hours
- Activity Requirement: (2-6 cr. hr.), at least two different recreation activities
- Liberal Arts and Free Electives (5-9 cr. hr.), which could include REC 375: Wilderness First Responder [3 cr. hr.]. Students who are exempt from taking REC 360 will have 8-11 credits of liberal arts and free electives.
- First Aid Requirement: (0-3 cr. hr.), certification in Wilderness First Aid or higher (see advisement manual for acceptable certifications). Select REC 375 or provide the original certificate of completion from an approved external First Aid agency.
