The Foundations and Social Advocacy Department offers the inclusive special education major which prepares students to have certification in teaching children with disabilities in grades 1-6.

A. College-wide and General Education Courses
More detailed information regarding the General Education requirement is available from the department. GE 1: Quantitative Skills
GE 2: Natural Sciences
- Any combination of the Natural Sciences, although SCI 141 and SCI 142 are recommended
GE 4: United States History and Society
GE 6: Contrasting Cultures
GE 8: The Arts
Any GE 8 course GE 9: Foreign Language
- Program Requirement: foreign language through the 102 level (six credit hours)
- American Sign Language (ASL) is recommended
GE 10: Basic Communication
- Select either CPN 100 or 102 and CPN 101 or 103.
- Additionally select one course fulfilling the Presentation Skills Requirement, FSA 101 is recommended.
GE 11: Prejudice and Discrimination
GE 12: Science, Technology, Values and Society
Any GE 12 course B. Content Core: 24 credit hours
The following also fulfills requirements for the minor
C. Inclusive Special Education Requirements: 31 credit hours
D. Minor in Psychology of Children with Exceptionalities: 21 credit hours
Completion of the Minor in Psychology of Children with Exceptionalities, including the following courses: E. Application and Reflection on Teaching: 16 credit hours
To be eligible for student teaching, a student must be in good academic standing, have no incompletes, complete all prerequisite education courses, have an overall grade point average of 2.7 or better, have completed at least two-thirds of the course work in the minor, and have no grade lower than a C in required education and special education courses. Students must be eligible at the time of application, and if ineligible must reapply when eligibility is achieved. F. Free Elective Courses: Four credit hours

Complete the following workshops prior to student teaching:
- Child Abuse Recognition and Reporting (CARR)
- Dignity for All Students Act (DASA)
- Safe Schools Against Violence in Education (SAVE)
Total Credit Hours Required for Graduation : 124-126
