Psychology (B.S.) [PSY]

The B.S. requires 0-3 credit hours of foreign language.

This major in the Psychology Department  provides a broad base of understanding of psychology as a science — the methodology of the discipline, the principles and concepts in major areas, and selected areas of application. Major areas include foundational methods courses, as well as a broad range of areas represented by the content and applied course selections.

1. Required Psychology Courses: 36 credit hours


B. Content Groups: 12 credit hours


 One course must be taken from each content group.

Developmental Changes in Behavior and Mental Processes: 3 credit hours


Learning and Cognition Processes: 3 credit hours


Biological Bases of Behavior and Mental Processes: 3 credit hours


Individual Differences, Personality and Social Processes: 3 credit hours


C. Application of Psychology: 9 credit hours


 Select three courses from the following:

2. Related Area Requirements: 21-22 credit hours


Anthropology/Sociology: 6 credit hours


Philosophy: 3 credit hours


Other philosophy courses may be substituted with the approval of the Psychology Department.

Mathematics: 3-4 credit hours


Choose from the following courses, or any other undergraduate mathematics course that has any of these as a prerequisite.

Computer Applications: 3 credit hours


3. Additional Degree Requirements: 9 credit hours


Bachelor of Science candidates must take an additional nine credit hours of biology, chemistry, mathematics or physics. These additional nine credit hours may not include courses used to fulfill the "Related Area Requirements" above. Select any three courses:
