ATR 520 - Healthcare Administration and Leadership

Administrative components of healthcare as related to athletic training and developing professional practices.  Critical evaluation of current practices related to legal, ethical, financial, facility, operational, administrative and leadership issues. (3 cr. hr.)
Frequency code F = offered every fall

Student Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  1. Assess epidemiology of a variety of patient populations across the various practice settings of athletic training including utilizing evidence-based practice guidelines and trends to adhere to standards and best practice.
  2. Advocate for the athletic training profession and for the health needs of clients, patients, communities, and populations including accounting for health literacy, health disparities, and social determinants of health.
  3. Apply administrative duties and business principles to the management of physical, human, and financial resources in the administration and delivery of healthcare services including evaluating systems for quality assurance and improvement.
  4. Perform self-assessment of professional competence, create professional development plans according to personal and professional goals and requirements to maintain necessary credentials and promote on-going learning strategies.
  5. Assess the duties and responsibilities of the athletic trainer as a healthcare provider within the context of the continually evolving healthcare system including the AT role in administrative role.
