ATR 518 - Pharmacology and Performance Enhancement for Athletic Trainers

Principles of pharmacology and governing regulations of pharmacologic management as they relate to athletic training best practice standards. (3 cr. hr.)
Frequency code S = offered every spring

Student Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  1. Employ relevant healthcare standards, statutes, and regulations for appropriate pharmacologic management.
  2. Discuss appropriate pharmacological agents and methods of administration for various medical conditions as prescribed by a licensed physician or other provider with legal prescribing authority.
  3. Explain to patients/clients the effects and risks of use, misuse, and abuse of alcohol, prescription and recreational drugs, and performance-enhancing substances and ergogenic aids.
  4. Appraise and utilize evidence-based practice guidelines and trends.
  5. Interpret and implement practice patterns that adhere to standards and best practices.
