ATH 301 - Training the Artist: 1850 - Present The evolution of art education from the Parisian ateliers and schools of design of the 19th century, through the experiments of the Russian Revolution and Bauhaus, to the professionalization of art pedagogy in American universities after the Second World War. Prerequisite: ATH 121 or ATH 122. Fulfills: LASR; WI. (3 cr. hr.) Frequency code C = offered at least once every two years
Student Learning Outcomes Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Identify the relationship between arts education and the development of the visual arts between 1850 and the present
- Recognize the social and political contexts within the development of art education
- Analyze critical texts and works of art from 1850 to the present
