AAS 350 - Caribbean Philosophy

An examination of Caribbean philosophy, from the eighteenth century to the present. Focus on racism and colonialism, creolization and identity, Caribbean feminism and queer theory, and popular culture.  Also listed as PHI 350. Fulfills: GE 6, GEWH; LASR; WI. (3 cr. hr.)

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  1. Explain the significance of key debates, concepts, and methodologies related to Caribbean philosophy.
  2. Interpret primary texts in their historical context.
  3. Assess the relevance of the studied ideas for the contemporary moment.
