HLH 315 - Issues in Community Mental and Behavioral Health Disorders

Examinations of current issues, causes and consequences of community mental health and behavioral disorders as they relate to the individual, family, community and society. Modalities of education, prevention, intervention and treatment. Prerequisites: HUS 100 and HLH 203. (3 cr. hr.)
Frequency code B = offered at least once per year

Student Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  1. Summarize various models used explain the etiology of addiction and mental health issues. 
  2. Describe and discuss the psychological, sociological, and physiological effects of mood-altering substances.
  3. Examine services and treatment alternatives for mental and behavioral health disorders. 
  4. Critique current developments in drug regulations and enforcement in the U.S.  
  5. Describe the continuum of care for people with mental health and/or behavioral disorders.
