HIS 381 - The World of the Silk Road, 800-1500

Advanced study of the interaction of peoples and societies along the Silk Road in Central Asia from 800-1500. Special topics include: Patterns of commerce, formation of ethnic identity, development of Islamic civilization, forms of statehood. Prerequisite: Either HIS 100, 101, 110 or 111. Fulfills: LASR. (3 cr. hr.)

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  1. Explain the historical significance of key themes, events, and people relevant to the history of the Silk Road.
  2. Assess the persuasiveness of historians' claims about the past.
  3. Interpret primary source evidence to make claims about the past.
  4. Establish a primary source's historical context through sourcing techniques.
