GLY 359 - Sedimentary Geology

Geology of sedimentary rocks, sedimentary processes and stratigraphic principles, including sedimentary petrology, depositional processes, facies analyses and stratigraphic relationships at various temporal and spatial scales. Not open to students with credit for GLY 357. Prerequisites: GLY 262 and GLY 301. Lecture/Lab Hours: Required laboratory and field trips. Fulfills: LASR; WI. (4 cr. hr.)

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  1. Recall key definitions and facts of sedimentary geology.
  2. Apply knowledge to describe and identify common sedimentary rocks.
  3. Explain how sediments can be used to reconstruct ancient environments.
  4. Analyze and interpret sedimentological data.
