EDU 331 - Integrated Curriculum Development for Young Children

Curriculum development and planning focused on children in preschool through kindergarten, including planning and implementing developmentally appropriate learning experiences based on informal and formal methods of observation and assessment, design of learning environments, and use of play and exploration to expand children's social, emotional, cognitive, linguistic, physical and aesthetic growth and development. Requires a minimum 60-hour field placement with 3-to-5-year-olds. Prerequisites: EDU 270 and PSY 231; corequisite: EDU 333. (3 cr. hr.)

Student Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  1. Demonstrate an awareness of how play-based learning and holistic developmental outcomes are used to inform early learning environment design and curriculum development.
  2. Apply knowledge of child development research, early learning standards, integrated curriculum development and assessment data to implement developmentally appropriate learning experiences.
  3. Develop skills in observing, documenting and assessing young children's learning and growth through authentic assessment strategies.
  4. Demonstrate professional reflective practices by examining one's beliefs, assumptions and dispositions related to young children's development and learning potential.
