ANT 313 - Maya Culture

Introduction to the Maya culture of Yucatán, México. Anthropological comparison of present-day Maya life with evidence from the colonial and ancient past. Prerequisite: ANT 102, 103, or 104  Fulfills: LASR. (3 cr. hr.)

Student Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  1. Demonstrate an understanding of the complexity of present and past versions of the Maya culture of Yucatán.
  2. Evaluate Maya language as a cultural system.
  3. Describe the ongoing challenges of living according to Maya culture through the colonial past into the neo-colonial present.
  4. Compare indigenous Maya cosmology and values with Western/industrial lifestyles and goals.
