SPM 460 - Applied Sport Sales and Marketing

An applied sport promotion class involving the application of promotional theory, event planning and management, public relations, sponsorship proposal writing and the sales and solicitation of sponsorships to an existing sports event, sport organization or team. Semester-long project required. Prerequisite: SPM 360. (3 cr. hr.)

Student Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  1. Explain fundamental marketing concepts, theories, principles, and terminology in sport marketing and promotion.
  2. Identify the role of marketing and promotion in business organizations and in the global marketplace.
  3. Recognize how the basic elements of market segmentation and positioning affect the marketing mix.
  4. Explain the interaction of marketing and promotion with other traditional and sport business functions.
  5. Describe the role of sport marketing and promotion in sport event management.
