MAT 101 - Concepts of Elementary School Mathematics I

Focuses on logical reasoning and problem solving. Topics include sets, numeration systems, number theory, rational numbers, decimals, ratio and proportion.  Fulfills LASR. (3 cr. hr.)

Student Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  1. Describe mathematical patterns and use them in problem-solving.
  2. Use the concepts of sets and functions to model and solve problems.
  3. Perform whole number operations in base ten and other bases.
  4. Work flexibly with fractions, decimals, and percentages to solve problems.
  5. Solve problems involving ratio and proportion.
  6. Use manipulatives and models to demonstrate and explain mathematical concepts.
