HLH 494 - Assessment and Evaluation of Health and Human Service Programs

Techniques for assessing health needs and problems, criteria and procedures for program evaluation. Community Health and Human Services majors only. Prerequisite: HLH 203, HLH 391 and HLH 394. Fulfills WI. (3 cr. hr.)

Student Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  1. Apply the precede-proceed model as a framework for needs assessment, intervention planning, and evaluation incorporating health behavior theories and models as appropriate.
  2. Plan an evidence-based program to address a community's health needs and improve quality of life.
  3. Identify and utilize valid and appropriate sources of secondary data.
  4. Select appropriate ways to collect, analyze, and interpret primary data needed to assess the health needs of a community and to evaluate the effectiveness of a program/service.
  5. Use the research literature to identify evidence-based practices for public health interventions.
