HLH 493 - Community Health Education

Study of the unique function of community health educator in health care delivery system. Techniques used for educational intervention in community health settings stressed. Prerequisite: HLH 203, HLH 380, HLH 394. Health majors only. (3 cr. hr.)
Frequency code B = offered at least once per year

Student Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  1. Utilize models, theories and/or frameworks to plan community health interventions.
  2. Plan an evidence-based program to address a community's health needs through policy, systems and/or environmental change.
  3. Explain the utility and mechanics of logic models in community health program planning.
  4. Explain the role and functions of community coalitions in health promotion.
  5. Describe and apply advocacy strategies to influence policy decision-makers.
