HLH 393 - Introduction to Occupational Safety and Health

This survey course is designed to acquaint the student with fundamental principles of occupational safety and health hazard recognition, evaluation and control in the work place. Government regulations including OSHA, NIOSH, PESH and health-related labor-management issues will be discussed. (3 cr. hr.)

Student Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  1. Identify and describe the organization of regulatory agencies that deal with issues of occupational safety and health, environmental health, and risk management. 
  2. Describe the history and evolution of occupational safety and health. 
  3. Evaluate the financial and human impact of occupational injuries and illnesses.
  4. Describe workers compensation plans.
