HIS 201 - The United States Since 1877

Survey of American history from Reconstruction to the present, with emphasis on major events impacting social groups, individuals, and public and private institutions. Particular attention paid to continuity and change within and among social groupings and institutions, and the factors (social, economic, political, cultural, global) shaping their interactions and development. Fulfills: GE 4, GEUS; LASR. (3 cr. hr.)

Student Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  1. Identify major historical figures, institutions and developments from Reconstruction to the present.
  2. Analyze relationships over time between various historical factors (for example, individuals, social groups, cultural and intellectual trends, economic developments and political structures).
  3. Explain the historical significance of America's global relationships.
