EXS 471 - Internship in Strength and Conditioning for Human Performance

A full-time supervised internship in a fitness field that relates to the student's area of interest.  Prerequisites: EXS 435, 438, and 440; C- or better in EXS 387. (9-15 cr. hr.)
Frequency code A = offered every semester

Student Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  1. Identify the roles and responsibilities of the personnel within a fitness/clinical/sport organization including the basic functions of planning, organizing, controlling, staffing and leading.
  2. Apply the concepts, theories and tools of exercise prescription learned in the classroom to a specific fitness/clinical/sport organization.
  3. Conduct appropriate fitness/clinical/sport assessments associated with the goals of the clients and guidelines of the internship site.
  4. Identify how a fitness/clinical/sport organization might deal with socio-economic, gender, ethnicity, race, and disability as factors within an operating environment.
  5. Assess professional strengths and areas of improvement and develop personal objectives for a career in kinesiology.
