EXS 450 - Disability and Sport Examination of the critical contemporary issues associated with the organization, governance and management of sport for people with disabilities. Emphasis will be placed on the historical, sociological and cultural contexts, as well as the practical environments in which sport opportunities for athletes with disabilities have evolved. Particular emphasis will be placed on a service-learning component designed to provide students with a "working understanding" of the core issues facing sport managers and sport scientists working with athletes with disabilities. Not open to freshmen or sophomores. Also listed as SPM 450. (3 cr. hr.) Frequency code O = offered occasionally
Student Learning Outcomes Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Identify the critical contemporary issues associated with the organization, governance and management of sport for people with disabilities.
- Explain the historical, sociological and cultural contexts, as well as the practical environments in which sport opportunities for athletes with disabilities have evolved.
- Relate a service-learning component to a "working understanding" of the core issues facing sport managers and sport scientists working with athletes with disabilities.
