AAS 112 - Beginning Blues Guitar

Examines the role of blues guitar in African-American history and culture through listening, discussion and performance. May be repeated once for credit. Also listed as MUS 112. (2 cr. hr.)

Student Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  1. Identify early African American Blues musicians, and discuss their contributions to and importance in African American music culture.
  2. Analyze the significance of the guitar in the history of the Blues.
  3. Explain the historical significance of the "12-Bar Blues" chord progression, and demonstrate an example on the guitar.
  4. Explain the historical significance of the "turnaround," and demonstrate an example on the guitar.
