COM 413 - Women in Film Explore the representations of women in contemporary film; use feminist approaches to study film; analyze discourses of femininity in popular movies; examine how images, stories and icons are constructed in film and are reflected in the social construction of womanhood and femininity. Prerequisite: COM 100. Fulfills: LASR. (3 cr. hr.) Frequency code B = offered at least once per year
Student Learning Outcomes Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Describe the relationships between popular culture and conceptions of womanhood.
- Apply contemporary feminist theories to an analysis of film.
- Analyze how characteristics of femininity, womanhood and girlhood are represented in film.
