COM 413 - Women in Film

Explore the representations of women in contemporary film; use feminist approaches to study film; analyze discourses of femininity in popular movies; examine how images, stories and icons are constructed in film and are reflected in the social construction of womanhood and femininity.   Prerequisite: COM 100. Fulfills: LASR. (3 cr. hr.)

Student Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  1. Describe the relationships between popular culture and conceptions of womanhood. 
  2. Apply contemporary feminist theories to an analysis of film. 
  3. Analyze how characteristics of femininity, womanhood and girlhood are represented in film.
