Dynamics of social movements, including the roles of shared grievances, collective identities, material resources, political opportunities, leadership and strategy in major movements of the past and present. Prerequisite: SOC 100 or 150 or ANT 102. Notes: Category C.(3 cr. hr.)

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  1. Describe the histories, goals, and accomplishments of the most significant American social movements.
  2. Explain the dynamics of collective action, including how movements come about and factors that influence their relative success in attaining their objectives.
