REC 303 - Sustainable Communities and Events

Explores the role of the community, with a focus on developing and sustaining healthy and vibrant communities. Current trends, regenerative practices, culture, and environmental considerations are examined.  (3 cr. hr.)
Frequency code B = offered at least once per year

Student Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  1. Analyze the role of recreation and events in developing and sustaining community.
  2. Outline the significant historical events that led to current trends in community recreation and events.
  3. Identify and assess the community and environmental impact of recreation programs and events.
  4. Apply principles and practices of regenerative programs and events at the local level.
  5. Identify, assess and manage the needs of constituents and stakeholders to generate community prosperity while preserving the cultural and environmental characteristics of place.
  6. Undertake an effective writing process, making informed decisions about their writing with input from their instructor.
  7. Write effectively in specific disciplinary genres.
