LIT 535 - Writing Instruction and Assessment

Candidates will explore instruction, assessments and research trends regarding writing. Provide strategies to assist teaching students who struggle in literacy to improve their writing skills. Fifteen hours of field experience are required to complete this class. (3 cr. hr.)
Frequency code B = offered at least once per year

Student Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  1. Synthesize and utilize knowledge of theoretical and evidence-based foundations of writing instruction and assessment. 
  2. ​Apply knowledge of writing across grade levels, disciplines, texts, cultural contexts, and learners. 
  3. Design and evaluate evidence-based writing curricula with a focus on writing that targets students' strengths and instructional needs. 
  4. Demonstrate the ability to analyze writing assessment data and use these data for instructional plans.
