FSA 695 - Seminar: Teaching Adolescents with Disabilities Brings together all the themes in research, philosophy, theory and practice that have been addressed in previous courses in the graduate degree program of Teaching Students with Disabilities, grades 7-12. Enables a thoughtful, comprehensive, research-based approach to teaching and professional development. Issues directly relate to experiences throughout the course of study. Prerequisites: FSA 515, 530, 615, 625, 683. Corequisite: FSA 694. (1 cr. hr.) Frequency code A = offered every semester
Student Learning Outcomes Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Engage in on-going scholarly inquiry as ethical and reflective practitioners and teachers of students with disabilities grades 7-12.
- Reflect upon effective strategies used to collaborate with related service professionals, colleagues, and para-educators.
- Elaborate on strategies to create an inclusive classroom community where all students in grades 7-12 are supported and respected, interaction occurs among all students, and behaviors are addressed proactively and respectively.
- Describe multiple roles special education teachers assume on a day to day basis to plan and provide instruction, to monitor and assess the achievement of Individualized Education Program (IEP) goals, and to provide instructional and test accommodations and modifications.
