FSA 610 - Advanced Assessment of Students with Disabilities

This advanced course provides theoretical and practical applications of assessment (formal and informal) in the general education elementary classroom for students with disabilities. A 15-hour field component is included in this course. Prerequisite: FSA 515. (3 cr. hr.)
Frequency code B = offered at least once per year

Student Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  1. Articulate what is required for the assessment of students with disabilities under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA).
  2. Use assessment data to describe a student with a disability in grades 1-6 including strengths and needs, develop goals and objectives, create adaptations and accommodations for instruction and test administration.
  3. Analyze assessment strategies and specific assessments tools to identify applications, and advantages and limitations of their use.
  4. Describe basic concepts of assessment as they relate to test construction and measurement theory; including the issues of validity reliability, norms, bias, and test interpretation.
