SHH 677 - Advanced Diagnostics

Focus is on theory and application of formal and informal methods and procedures for the assessment of communication skills. Issues involving the assessment of communication differences and disorders with individuals from diverse backgrounds are addressed. Emphasis is placed on the development of professional-level clinical writing and oral presentation skills required for clinical practice. Open to students in the M.S. program in communication sciences and disorders. (3 cr. hr.)

Student Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  1. Evaluate clinical quality and utility of selected formal and informal assessment tools and methods for use with diverse individuals and varied communication disorders.
  2. Use appropriate clinical format and content in written and oral reporting assessment tasks, including goal-writing, SOAP notes, evaluation reports, and caregiver communication.
  3. Analyze, integrate, and synthesize case assessment information in a comprehensive written evaluation report that meets clinical requirements for content, format, and presentation.
