REC 604 - Foundations of Therapeutic Recreation

In-depth examination of the history, theory and philosophy of therapeutic recreation, including service models, standards, legislation, and practice perspectives from clinical to inclusive community settings. Examination of the needs, characteristics and abilities of people with disabilities across the lifespan and the role of therapeutic recreation in attainment of well-being and quality of life. (3 cr. hr.)

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  1. Explain the theoretical and scientific foundations of the therapeutic recreation profession.
  2. Explain scope and practice of the therapeutic recreation profession.
  3. Explain techniques and processes of the therapeutic recreation profession in decision-making.
